I've updated 3 HP laptops that range from 3-5 years old and then turned around and did fresh installs on them all.
After looking at device manager I found to have problems on all the laptops. All had problems with the JMicron card reader. One had a bluetooth problems and the 2 with the fingerprint swipe reader. The oldest 2 had problems with the HP Drive Gaurd. Netgear A6100 Driver Windows 10. I found no issues with video on any of them. They appeared to use M$ drivers and then upgraded to the manufacturer driver. I found solutions by locating the JMicron drivers on HP support and the other issues were resolved by using the Windows 8 drivers via HP support.
I really feel sorry for the average home user because most of them don't even have the skill level to look in the device manager and track down and identify the hardware manufactuer. Bottom line is to search by your model number on HP support choosing Win 8 operating system drivers and have them on hand when doing a fresh install. I'm still happy with HP business support site and I'm sure they'll soon have Win 10 drivers for newer machines.
